Permits to install septic tanks may become faster to acquire if a plan from a committee is put into place.
Members of the Bradley County Commission’s Ad Hoc Committee on septic tank permit procedures and building codes are recommending a 90-day trial period that will utilize a current county employee to help with the paperwork load of the state employee responsible for issuing those permits.
According to a report to the committee, Theresa Vineyard, who currently works in the county planning department, had worked with TDEC’s Hank Thompson in the past.
Discussions with Thompson have provided information to lead the committee to believe Vineyard could be of assistance, potentially make the flow better and speed up the process to take three to five days.
Vineyard has said she would do it, but the committee will recommend a $4,000 per year raise if the commission allows the move to become permanent.
Records would also need to be moved to Vineyard’s station in the planning office since she maintains a presence at the front desk.
Commissioners directed Bradley County Mayor D. Gary Davis, who said the idea had been presented to him, to speak with both Thompson and Vineyard and come back to the commission with his recommendation.
