Nearly 400 students will be graduating today from Southern Adventist University.

Dr. Paul Conn, president of Lee University, will deliver the commencement address. Southern Adventist University’s graduation program“Just Who Do You Think You Are, Anyway?” will take place today. The ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m.at the Chattanooga Convention Center.

Allyn Gilbert, 87, will be the oldest graduate ever from Southern as he receives his master’s in religious studies.

Gilbert is a retired physician from California who met one of Southern’s religion professors years ago when the professor was teaching for Pacific Union College. As the professor moved to Collegedale to teach at Southern, the student began flying to Tennessee each summer to take classes at Southern, due in large part to his relationship with the professor.

The graduating class of 2012 is leaving a unique senior gift. They’ve worked with Southern’s Advancement office to create an affinity fund in their class’ name that benefits future students financially.
