“We were overmatched in both height and bench size tonight. The Christmas break will be a good time to heal and recover,” said coach Thompson after the game. “We will be back in the gym over the holidays working on the basics.”
Acacia Thompson had 16 points, five rebounds, a blocked shot and two steals to lead the Lady Crusaders (2-6). Carrie Claypoole added six points and Jennifer Corbitt had seven rebounds on the night.
In the boys game, the Crusaders (2-6) played hard from the tip-off but fell short 85-47.
Coach Larry Davis said he is still very proud of his team. “They gave me 100 percent tonight, but were outbenched. I would put these boys against anyone at this point in the season,” he said.
Xavier Jordan had his fourth consecutive double-double with 24 points, 17 rebounds, four blocked shots and a steal. Chris Reynolds had six points, Briar Lowe eight, Matthew Chambless four and Matthew Mathis two. Alex Abercrombie provided the highlight on the evening, hitting a shot from behind the arc for three points.
