The Cougars took a lopsided 10-4 decision over the Patriots in game one then finished the sweep with a 3-1 win in game two.
The Patriots struck first with a run in their first turn at the plate when Brian Cabrera singled and scored on a double from Josh Perez to take a 1-0 lead.
The Cougars took the lead in the second frame with a four spot. Michael Hargrove, DeAndre Allen, Keith Buckhault and Chase Edwards all chipped in with RBIs and the home team took a 4-1 lead. Allen singled, stole a base and later scored in the fourth as the Cougars extended their lead to 5-1.
The Patriots pulled to within a run in the top of the fifth after Perez belted a three-run homer over the left field fence to trim the lead to 5-4.
The Cougars would have none of that, however, exploding for five big runs in their half of the fifth. Allen knocked in two more runs with a double, and Evan Speicher singled in another while two more crossed on an error and a sacrifice fly, giving CSCC a 10-4 lead.
Ethan Davis tossed four innings for the Cougars (24-13 ) to get the win while Derek Chandler, Haydn Bailey and Andre Wilson pitched an inning each in relief. Landon Case took the loss for the Patriots.
The Cougars jumped on top in game two with a run in the bottom of the second inning without the benefit of a hit. Colby Harmon reached on an error and came around to score on a grounder to first by Randall Coley for a 1-0 lead.
The Patriots managed to tie the game in the top of the third when Blake Castator doubled and later scored on a grounder to second by Brian Cabrera.
The Cougars regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth after JD Cowart reached on an infield single and Zach Janes reached on an error. Both came around to score on an error and a balk to give the home team a 3-1 advantage.
That would be all the run support starter Tyler Kilgore needed. The Cougar hurler scattered three hits over his five innings of work to pick up the win. Jordan Whitmire tossed a hitless inning in relief while Bobby Towne came on to pitch the seventh and get the save. Joel Rasario took the loss for the Patriots.
The Cougars will travel to Morristown Friday for a three-game weekend series with Walters State.
