The Bradley County Trustee’s Office has surpassed its goal for parcels enrolled in the 12-month partial payment for future property taxes.

“Our goal was 500 over five years, and we hit that in the third year,” Bradley County Trustee Mike Smith said. “We feel that this (program) is really assisting the taxpayers in Bradley County who struggle to make a one-time payment.”

There are 507 parcels signed up for the program.

Smith said the department is pleased with the growth of the program, and hopes to see it continue to grow.

However, he is not setting a goal of a new number of parcels to sign up for the program. Smith said he expects to see the number grow as more people hear about the process.

The next enrollment period starts Jan. 2 and ends on Feb. 8. The first payment is due March 15.

Those in the partial payment plan do not need to reapply each year.

Parcels can only be signed up by applying for the program at the Trustee’s Office in the Bradley County Courthouse. Once a parcel is signed up for the program, residents have various options as to how to make the monthly payments. Many choose to have the money withdrawn from their accounts. Those wanting to have payments withdrawn directly from their accounts will need to bring a voided check with them when applying.

Parcels are kept in the program unless the owner specifies they do not want to be in the program anymore.

When Bradley County implemented a partial payment plan, it was one of the first counties in the state to implement such a program.

Partial payments are also accepted for delinquent and current taxes.

The Trustee’s Office will be open on Dec. 31 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The office will be open to allow taxpayers a final chance to make a payment to have it included in 2012 numbers. The rest of the Courthouse will be closed.
