He was a member of Prospect Church of God of Cleveland and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by parents, John Hughes and Myrtle Hensley Hughes; and brothers: Hoyt Hughes and J.R. Hughes.
He is survived by wife, Beatrice Harden Hughes; two children: Darlene Looney and husband, Charles, of Athens and Dale Hughes of Cleveland; three grandchildren: Laura Bowers, Ashley Wise and boyfriend, Eric Mitchell, and Amber Pickle and husband, Chris; great-granddaughter, Olivia Pickle; brothers: Bill Hughes, Sammy Hughes and Donnie Hughes; sisters: Faye Cofer, Barbara Hooker, Kay Stokes and Ina Stokes; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Kenneth Bowers officiating.
Interment will follow in Mount Olive Cemetery.
A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 this evening at the funeral home.
