Pastor Daniel D. Preston Sr., 80, a resident of Cleveland, made the glorious transition from earth to heaven on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012.

He was pastor of the Triune Assembly Church in Cleveland and a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ for more than 60 years.

In 1960, he graduated with his bachelor of arts from Belmont University in Nashville. In 1965, he earned his master of arts degree from MTSU.

He was a high school teacher and principal. He was professor of Bible and academic dean of Tomlinson College. He was the author of three books: “Life and Works of the Minister,” “The Church Triumphant,” and “The Era of A.J. Tomlinson.”

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He was a devoted husband to Dorothy June Preston, who passed away in 2003. He will forever be remembered as a loving and caring family man.

He was the father of four children — one son, David Preston; and three daughters: Janice Preston, Gale Underwood and Christy Lipscomb, all of Cleveland. He is also survived by daughter-in-law, Wanda Preston; sons-in-law, Daryl Lipscomb and John Underwood; nine grandchildren: Holly Preston Mendiratta and Daniel Preston, III, John Hogan, III, Joey Ann Mitchell, Jake Hartline, Ella, Eva and Evan Lipscomb and Jay Underwood; eight great-grandchildren: Lake Preston-Self, Bodhi Mitchell, Noah Hogan, Henry Hogan, Solomon Mendiratta, Addison, Preston and Brinley Underwood; one sister, Mary Duncan of Nashville; and with several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor David Riggs of Faith Memorial Church officiating.

Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors.

John Hogan, Daniel Preston, III, John Underwood, Daryl Lipscomb, Dr. Sudave Mendiratta, Jake Hartline, Casey Mitchell, and Daniel David Preston Jr. will serve as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

His family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
