David E. Fitzke, 53, a resident of McDonald, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 12, 2013.

He was born in Portsmouth, Va., on Feb. 9, 1960, a son of Jerry Fitzke and Joyce Fitzke Putnam.

He was a very active member of the Apison United Methodist Church, where he sang in the church choir and served on numerous boards and committees.

He also had served for many years on the Hamilton YMCA Board where he met and married the love of his life, Karen. He enjoyed classical music, black and white movies, trains and various sports. Above all he enjoyed being a father and family man to his wife and two children.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 19 years, Karen Nicholson Fitzke; one daughter, Ilona Fitzke; one son, Saul Fitzke; his mother and stepfather, Joyce and Charles Putnam; father, Jerry Fitzke; two brothers: Gary Fitzke (Kathy) of Kansas and Alan Fitzke (Laura) of East Ridge; and several extended family, friends and church family.

The family will receive friends Saturday, June 15, 2013, from noon to 2 p.m., at Apison United Methodist Church, 4404 Bill Jones Road in Apison, at which time a memorial service will follow with the Revs. Debbie Stokes and Todd Chancey officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in David’s memory to either the Apison United Methodist Church, Hamilton YMCA or a college fund that will be set up for his children.

You are encouraged to share a memory of David and/or your personal condolences with his family by visiting his memorial web page and guest book at www.companionfunerals.com.

Companion Funeral & Cremation Service and the Cody family are honored to assist the Fitzke family with these arrangements.
