David Harold Thompson, 87, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, surrounded by his loving children at his home.
He was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served during World War II in Europe. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 81.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Elizabeth Watkins Thompson; parents, Benjamin and Mary Thompson; grandson, Joseph Dale Gates; brother, Gene Thompson; sisters: Juanita Thompson, Lola Buckner, Mildred Brannon and Gladys Parker; son-in-law, Billy “Catfish” Ledford; and great-grandson: Robert Andrew Taylor Malone.
Survivors include his four sons: Rickie Thompson and wife, May, Terry Thompson, Nickey “Randy” Thompson and wife, Paula, and Russell Thompson and wife, Brenda, all of Cleveland; five daughters: Vicki Thompson, Sandra Ledford, Dianne Gates and husband, George, and Kimberly “Kim” Thompson, all of Cleveland, and Darlene Woods and husband, Curtis, of Birmingham, Ala.; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren;
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2012, in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Fox officiating.
Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors.
Joshua Ledford, Aaron Brandon Woods, Tony Gates, Christopher Patterson, Brian Thompson and Jimmy Giles will serve as pallbearers.
A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 this evening at the funeral home.
