MURFREESBORO — Lee University freshmen sprinters Brad Davis and Lamar Thompson opened the indoor track season on Saturday at Middle Tennessee State University’s Christmas Invitational.

Davis collected a couple of first place finishes with times that qualified him for the 2013 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships and Thompson garnered a top-four finish.

The graduate of Walker Valley High School held off MTSU’s Kendall Bacchus to win both the 55 Meter Dash and the 200 Meter Dash. Davis’ 55 meter time of 6.46 seconds was just 0.02 seconds faster than Bacchus, but Davis (21.93) was 0.21 seconds faster than Bacchus in the longer distance.

Thompson participated in the same two races. The Bradley Central High School graduate placed fourth (6.58 seconds) in the 55 Meter Dash and 16th (23.52 seconds) in the 200 Meter Dash.

There are two qualifying standards for the NAIA National Championships. The A Standard is an automatic qualifying mark and the B Standard requires a coach to use a right-of-membership to enter an athlete into an event.

Davis was just 0.02 seconds shy of meeting the the A Standard in both the 55 meter and 200 meter races. The mark to reach is 6.44 in the 55 Meter Dash and 21.91 in the 200 Meter Dash.
