This is the sixth year of local participation and 10th year since 45,000 people gathered in Newlands Rugby Stadium in Cape Town, South Africa, in May 2001.
Pastor Michael Obi said in the third year, more than 230 million Christians were involved. The call to prayer has continued spreading around the world from beyond the rugby stadium to more than 210 nations. The goal is to unite the world in a common day of prayer.
Prayers begin at noon Thursday and rotate between various city and county sites during the following days. The first day of prayer will be held at the Bradley County Courthouse followed by Friday services at the Cleveland Police Service Center and Garden Plaza on Saturday. All services are scheduled to begin promptly at noon and end at 1 p.m. No special prayer service is scheduled Sunday.
Prayer vigils are scheduled the next seven days at the Bradley County School Board, Cleveland Municipal Building, Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce, Cleveland High School, Bradley County Justice Center and SkyRidge Medical Center.
The global prayer meeting will be at 6 p.m. Monday in the North Cleveland Church of God.
The Global Day of Prayer is divided into three strategies including the 10 Days of Prayer, the Global Day of Prayer and the 90 Days of Blessing from May 24 through Aug. 21.
The 90 Days of Blessing is divided into local and international components. The days of prayer will be followed by 90 Days of Blessing during which time there will be opportunities to participate in building two Habitat For Humanity homes. Fourteen churches are participating in building the two Habitat homes as part of the Apostle Build program.
This is the first year for the international component of 90 Days of Blessing. Operation Kid Passion, a ministry that grew out of North Cleveland Church of God, collects and ships hygiene products to other countries.
