He was born in Etowah to the late Burch and Flossie Truelove Wilson. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Brown and Carol Hope; and one brother, Jarvis Wilson.
A longtime resident of Athens and the Riceville community, he was a charter member of Restoration Church and retired from Bowater Southern in 1993, after 39 years of service.
He was a loving husband, wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather.
Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Ruth Womac Wilson of Athens; two daughters: Kathy Lee and husband, Jimmy, of Riceville and Donna Kettenbeil and husband, Mark, of Ten Mile; two sons-in-law: Charles Brown of Athens and Johnny Hope of Athens; five grandchildren: Traci Hill and husband, Lou, Travis Brown, Jeff Coleman, Jordan Hope and Karlie Cook; five great-grandchildren: Lindsey Maggard, Lauren Stett, Bayli Hill, Justin Coleman and Josh Coleman; three great-great-grandchildren: Landon Maggard, Kelbi Maggard and Paisley Stett; three sisters: Hazel Womac of Riceville, Wanda Crowe and husband, Cliff, of Athens and Ruth Grindstaff of Erwin; one brother, Freddie Gilbert and wife, Pam, of Louisburg, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at Restoration Church, 3115 Highway 39 West, Athens.
Officiating will be the Revs. Johnny Hope and Frank Hicks. Burial will follow in Eastanallee Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Brown, Johnny Hope, Jimmy Lee, Lou Hill, Mark Kettenbeil, Jordan Hope, Jeff Coleman and Travis Brown.
The family of will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service at Restoration Church.
