Dieter F. Thornton, 55, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Sunday evening, Dec. 2, 2012, in a Chattanooga hospital.

He was born on Feb. 5, 1957, in Strausberg Germany.

He was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

He loved to travel and wrote many letters about the wonderful places he visited and the people he met.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Donna Pritt.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Don and Mary Thornton of Batesville, Ark.; mother, Ellie Thornton of Chatsworth, Ga.; sister, Debbie Sharp of Cleveland; niece, Sissy Creason; nephews: Rex Hamilton Jr., Edward Sharp Jr., and Frank Russell; and several other extended family members and friends.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date in Chatsworth, Ga.
