For the second straight day Cleveland High’s District 5-AAA battle with Rhea County was put off, so by league by-laws the teams will play a doubleheader this evening.
Coach Ted Carson’s Blue Raiders (2-4, 0-2 District 5-AAA) will travel to Evensville for a twin bill with the Golden Eagles (3-3, 0-2) starting at 4:30.
“We were going to try to start earlier, but we couldn’t get it worked out,” explained coach Carson.
After posting a 20-1 blowout Monday in Sweetwater, Polk County had to put off the back end of the home-and-home series until today.
The two Wildcat squads will square off in Benton this afternoon with a 5 p.m. first pitch.
Both Polk County and Cleveland will travel to the north side of Chattanooga Thursday through Saturday to participate in the Pounder Classic.
The Blue Raiders and Wildcats will take each other on at 3:30 Friday afternoon at the Hixson High School field.
Polk also plays Clarksville Thursday evening at 6:15 at Chattanooga Central, plus face Andalusia (Ala.) at 1:15 Friday in Hixson.
Coach Michael Carter’s Wildcats will take on co-host Hixson Saturday afternoon at 4:45. Cleveland’s full schedule for the event was not available at press time.
Walker Valley and Ooltewah braved the snow flurries and cold temperatures for a 2-1 Mustang victory at Mike Turner Field Tuesday (see related story, this page).
Coach Joe Shamblin’s Stallions will travel to Ooltewah this evening to finish the home-and-home series.
Walker Valley will travel to Upper East Tennessee for the Mets/Coca-Cola Classic Thursday through Saturday.
The Mustangs will take on Daniel Boone High Thursday evening at 5 at the Hunter-Wright Stadium, home of the Kingsport Mets Class A Minor League affiliate of the New York Mets.
On Friday, Walker Valley will be in Johnson City to take on co-host Science Hill at 2:30 and Sullivan South at 4:45. The Mustangs will face co-host Dobyns Bennett back in Kingsport at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.
No information was available by press time about Bradley Central’s Tuesday game against Knox Carter in Cocoa Beach, Fla.
The Bears will take today off and are slated to face a pair of New York teams on Thursday and Friday before returning from the Sunshine State.
On the high school softball diamonds, Polk County is heading to Alcoa Thursday for a doubleheader, while Walker Valley will travel to Murfreesboro for the Riverdale Invitational Thursday through Saturday.
