Zandra Welch, a member of this year’s Volley for a Cure Committee and coordinator for the doctor’s team, said this used to be a yearly event to raise money for different charities.
The last game was played in 1999. Since then reviving the annual event had been talked about, but never fully successful.
This year the softball game will be added to a number of Volley For a Cure fundraisers, culminating with the annual volleyball game at Lee University on Friday night.
“We try to add something new to Volley for a cure each year,” Welch said.
Getting the ball rolling began with a conversation between Welch and attorney Barrett Painter. From there the former teams were contacted and asked if they would participate.
Welch said the teams have big fundraising goals for the event.
“The doctors have challenges the attorneys,” Welch said.
The doctors plan to raise $3,000 and have challenged the attorneys to raise the same.
The game wil take place Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. ion the Lee University softball field, located at the corner of Parker and 20th streets.
Dr. Jason Dunn and attorney Bill Brown were also instrumental in rounding up players.
While many have commented they are too old to get back on the field, they nonetheless have been practicing hard to prepare for the game.
Volley for a Cure T-shirt and pink snacks will be available for purchase during the game. Tickets to the game are $5.
