The court was established to provide additional wellness and recreational activities for students and the surrounding community.
“Research shows high obesity rates in today’s children; therefore, opportunities to stay active are important,” physical education teacher Franklin Elrod said. “Additionally, this will provide a great place for students, their families and community members to spend valuable time together.”
Principal Elizabeth Kaylor said, “Recent professional development for our faculty has emphasized the link between academic performance and physical fitness. We have learned that exercise grows brain cells, and we believe this new addition to our campus will increase our ability to achieve academic excellence.”
This project was made possible with the help of Jonathon Cantrell and Caldwell Paving, who provided all labor at no cost, and Bartlee Norton and the Bradley County Youth Basketball All-Stars Program, who made a generous cash donation.
Other contributors were the Taylor PTO, Taylor basketball program, the Taylor fifth-grade class and parent volunteers Paul Wyrick, Johnny Norton and Paul Elrod.
