Dorothy Cate Cooper, 87 of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully, Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, with her daughters by her side at Elmcroft of Hamilton Place.
She was born in Athens on Oct. 25, 1925, to Clifford and Abbie Cate.
She graduated from McMinn County High School, and on June 20, 1948, was united in marriage to Glenn Cooper in Athens. Their marriage was blessed with three children.
In 1971, they moved to Chattanooga where Dorothy became a faithful and active member of St. John United Methodist Church, the Joy Sunday school class, and the St. John United Methodist Women’s Group. She enjoyed being a wife, mother and grandmother, as well as cooking for family and friends both at home and at numerous church events.
She will be dearly missed by her daughters: Barbara Cagle of Cleveland and Doris Cooper of Chattanooga; her brother, Delbert (June) Cate of Riceville; grandchildren: Shannon (Michael) Weaver and Jameson (Alicia) Cagle; great-grandchildren: Cooper Cagle and Aspen Weaver; her very special cousin Ronnie (Patty) Winningham of Cookeville; and other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Cooper; son, James Cooper; parents, Clifford and Abbie Cate; and brothers: Leroy Cate, Ralph Cate, Hoyt Cate and Elbert Cate.
A celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at 4 p.m. at St. John United Methodist Church, 3021 Murray Hills Drive. The Revs. Ken LaDuke and Dallas Beck will officiate.
Visitation will be held prior to the service, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the church.
