Evelyn Yvonne Barber, 75, of Cleveland, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, at home surrounded by her loving family.

She is now at home with the Lord.

She retired as head dietitian from McMinn County Jail, where she worked for 22 years. She fed many with wonderful meals that she had prepared as well as spiritual food.

She was a member of Bibleway COGIC for more than 20 years, where she served as church mother. She loved to minister to others, cook, play both the piano and organ and spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will forever be missed by her family and all who knew her. She loved the Lord with all her heart.

She was the daughter of Ulysess Bradford and Beaulah White of Benton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Ellis R. Barber; daughter, Faye Y. Johnson; and aunt, Anna Lou Heard.

Survivors include children: John (Phyllis) White of Jackson, Texas, Walter Barber of Dallas, Ga., Raymond Barber of Niota; Billie (Jerry) McDermott, Joe (Cynthia) White, Beaulah (Sam) Hall, Melba Jackie (James) Burkes, and Fred (Rita) Barber, all of Cleveland; brothers: Ulysess Bradford, James (Janice) Bradford, of Cleveland, and Major (Loretta) Bradford of Anchorage, Alaska; sisters: Frances Swoop of Philadelphia, and Barbara (Timothy) Scotton of Cohoes, N.Y.; 28 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at Fellowship of Praise Church of God, with Supt. Charles Allen and the Rev. Sam Hall officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Sunday at the church, prior to the service.
