The committee also approved a contract that would be required for participation.
The procedures and contracts will be reviewed by Bradley County Attorney Crystal Freiberg prior to being voted on by the County Commission.
Committee members approved the rules making the farmers’ market open to growers in Bradley County and adjoining Tennessee counties. Items from outside Bradley County will be required to display where the produce came from.
Every grower will be required to submit a contract to legislative assistant to the Commission Amy Moore before being able to sell at the market.
A possible waiver of this restriction for the first few days of operation was suggested by committee member Jeff Shadden.
The committee approved waiving the contract restriction and fee from April 19 to 21 to allow possible vendors to experience the market before committing to participation.
Produce, plants, flowers, eggs, dairy and USDA inspected locally raised meats will be permitted at the farmers market. Homemade baked goods and home-canned items will also be permitted if from a licensed domestic or commercial kitchen.
The market is set to open April 19, with a grand opening set for April 21 at 10 a.m. The market will be open Monday through Saturday from sunrise to sunset. There will be a $25 fee for producers to sell goods.
Committee member Bobby Orr said he had a bluegrass band that was interested in playing for the grand opening. Committee members said this would be a good idea, and asked him to pursue it.
Applications will be available at the Bradley County Courthouse, Bradley County Parks and Recreation Office and at www.bradleyco.net, according to Moore.
Commissioner Robert Rominger was also selected as chairman of the committee during Monday’s meeting.
