MT. VERNON, Ga. — SSAC opponents have learned over the past two seasons to never count the Lee men's soccer team out. For the third straight year the Flames are in the SSAC playoffs, thanks to a 1-0 win over host Brewton-Parker on Saturday afternoon.

It didn't come easy, but that is no surprise to those who have followed the Flames this season. Stanley Magwano scored with just over a minute remaining in the first half to give the banged up Flames the win. Josh Inglis got the assist and drew plenty of praise from coach Henry Moyo.

“Josh has brought a lot of extra energy to our club over the past two games,” said Moyo. “He has been a spark our group needed. Mohamed (Aden) has really grown this season. He has moved his game to another level.”

Again, just like so many matches, the Flames had plenty of opportunities to put the contest away. Moyo's men fired 29 shots, had 10 on target, but Baron keeper Danill Clavijo recorded nine saves for the losers. “We establish plenty of scoring opportunities but finishing continues to be a problem,” noted Moyo, “but our defense has been strong the entire year.” In fact, Brewton-Parker only got three shots and none were on goal.

The Flames (7-10-1, 3-3) collected their first official road win of the season. They defeated Graceland earlier in the year, but that was played at a neutral site and can't be counted as an away victory.

Lee will be on the road to open another playoff run, just like they have been the past two years, but still managed to notch SSAC tournament titles They will finish third or fourth in the SSAC East, and will travel to either Mobile or William Carey in the first round of the conference playoffs.
