MONTGOMERY, Ala. — When the Lee men's golf team begins play in the final round of the Southern States Athletic Conference Golf Tournament on Wednesday, it will hold a six-stroke lead over Faulkner University and a seven-stroke margin over Coastal Georgia in the 54-hole event.

Freshman Florian Loutre fired a 5-under 67 on Tuesday and will be battling Coastal Georgia's Chase Miller for medalist honors. Loutre has a 36-hole total of 137 and Miller is at 136. The Flames stand at 566 after a team total of 284 on Tuesday. Faulkner carded a 288 and is at 572, while Coastal tallied a 290 (573).

While Loutre was setting the pace, he was getting plenty of help from Matt Emery (140) who had his second straight under-par round (71) and is right behind Loutre in the medalist hunt. Freshman Peyton Sliger finished with his second straight 73 and is tied for 13th with JB Eksteen (76) with a 146. Hunter Vest (73) turned in the fourth score that counted and is at 148 overall.

“Today was another good effort from our guys,” said coach John Maupin. “They battled hard all day and we were able to keep four scores where they needed to be. Florian was in a good groove today. He hit a lot of quality shots and was able to convert several birdies.”

Maupin praised the game plan of his entire team for the Lagoon Park course. “We've got to keep our focus and just keep on executing one shot at a time on Wednesday. We know we have several good teams close by, so we still have plenty of work to do.”
