Flames to make run at NAIA nationals

CLEMSON, S.C. — Lee’s Terris Elliot, Brad Davis, Emmanuel Kipchumba and Mike Walker all qualified for NAIA nationals this weekend in the Clemson University Tiger Paw Invitational distance medley relay.

Elliot lead the team off with a 3:08 1200m, Davis was second to go with a 400 leg of 50 seconds, Kipchumba was third with a 1:57 800m, and Walker brought the team home with a 4:23 mile. The relay team in third place overall behind High Point and Furman University.

Mike Walker lowers his NAIA qualifying time in the 3,000m with a new school record by nine seconds with a time of 8:35. Walker was the first collegiate athlete to cross the line, finishing second behind Oscar Ogwaro, who was running unattached.

Cayce Bryan qualified in the women's 800m with a time to 2:20. Storyie Miller and Jessica Childers both ran season-best times of 2:23 and 2:24, just outside of the qualifying window.

“This was a very successful weekend for our Flames and Lady Flames,” said coach Caleb Morgan. “Our distance medley relay team put on quite a show, running one of the fastest times in the NAIA this year. Walker continues to make big drops in the 3,000m as he too ran one of the fastest times in the NAIA this year.”

Next meet is at Virginia Tech this coming Friday and Saturday.
