Freddie Lee Gibson Sr., 68, of Benton, passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, in a local hospital.

He worked 43 years for the state of Tennessee and had 28 years in the Tennessee Army National Guard. He was a member and drummer for Mountain View Baptist Church. He loved to fish, hunt and mow grass.

He was preceded in death by his father, Troy Gibson; mother, Marie Lewis; sister, Nona Blair Hall; son, Tommy Gibson; and two special brothers-in-law: Dennis Blair and Doyle Smith.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Mary Swafford Gibson; sons: Dennis Gibson, Lee “Punkin” Gibson and wife, Carrie, and Joe Johnson; grandchildren: Nick Gibson, Heather Jaramillo, Christopher Gibson and Hayden Gibson; sister, Bernice Smith; brother-in-law, Curtis Hall; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at Mountain View Baptist Church with the Revs. Pete Morgan, Benny Watson and Steven Miller officiating.

Interment will follow in Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery with Nick Gibson, Chris Gibson, Hector Jaramillo, Jamie Swanson, David Miller, Doug Jackson, Alvin Rutledge, Daryl Smith, David Smith and Dale Smith serving as pall bearers.

A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Higgins Funeral Home.
