Reason is a native of Cleveland and a Cleveland High School graduate. He plans to graduate from Lee in May 2013 with a degree in biochemistry with a pre-professional emphasis.
The Tucker Foundation Endowed Scholarship was established in 2009 by a grant from the Tucker Foundation of Chattanooga on behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Summerfield K. Johnston Jr. as part of Lee University's initiative to enhance mathematics and science at the institution. This scholarship is awarded each year to a rising senior majoring in the sciences or mathematics for use in the student’s senior year.
Faculty nominate the candidates from whom is chosen a winner based on outstanding academic achievement, with consideration given to financial need and priority given to students who graduated from an East Tennessee high school.
During his time at Lee, Reason has been extremely involved with the science department. He was one of the first members of Gamma Sigma Epsilon, an honors chemistry club, as well as a member of the honors pre-medical club, Alpha Phi Delta. During the summer of 2012 Reason participated in the Medical Missions trip to Guatemala.
"I am absolutely floored by the award,” said Reason. “It is an honor to be chosen by the faculty of Lee, and it is truly a blessing at a critical time in my life."
Reason is preparing for medical school and plans to begin the next phase in his education upon his graduation from Lee. He hopes to one day operate his own practice and to participate regularly in future medical mission trips with Lee.
