A native of McMinn County and a former resident of Bradley County, he was the son of the late James Herbert and Jewell Hicks Torbett.
He was a member of Marshall Hill Baptist Church and was retired from Kroger, where he worked as a butcher for more than 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Kenneth Torbett and Herbert “Marvin” Torbett.
Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law: Todd N. Torbett of Cleveland and the Rev. Travis L. and Amber Torbett of Riceville; one brother and sister-in-law, James William and Bobbie Torbett of Cleveland; one sister, Iva Dean Pendergrass of Cleveland; two grandchildren: MaKaylee Torbett and Madison Torbett; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. today, Aug. 22, 2012, in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home in Athens with the Rev. Garry King officiating.
The commital will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at McMinn Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Lones, Chris Ferris, Justin Dunn, Allen Riden, Gene Lowe and Kevin Dennis. Honorary pallbearers will be Calvin Bright and the deacons of Marshall Hill Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening before the service.
