Geneva Vassey Grissom, 93, a resident of Georgetown, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2011, in a local health care facility.

She was born in Spartanburg, S.C., to the late O.W. Vassey and Maggie Lee Blanton Vassey.

She was a faithful Christian woman who taught Sunday school for more than 40 years and was a member of Brittsville Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Grissom; two sons: Leroy Grissom and Gayle Grissom; two daughters: infant Geraldean Grissom and Lois Freeman; six brothers: Albert Vassey, Harold Vassey, Moody Vassey, Freeman Vassey, Cecil Vassey, and Edwin Vassey; one sister, Grace Swafford; and one grandson, Eddie Dean Grissom.

Survivors include four grandchildren: Karen Lyle (Eddie Joe), Sharon Brown (Richard), Russell Grissom (Heather), Martha Samples (Chris); 11 great-grandchildren: Scottie Lyle (Lesley), Shane Lyle (Brandi), Daisy Brown, Lily Brown, Cortland Grissom, Kayla Grissom, Haley Samples, Brooklyn Samples, Jayden Grissom, all of Georgetown, Daniel Grissom of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Sherry Pell (Ricky) of Cleveland; eight great-great-grandchildren: Brooklin Lyle, Gaige Lyle, Maison Lyle, Blaike Pell, Paige Lyle, Cameron Pell, Paxton Brown, and Braiden Lyle; daughters-in-law: Anna Lee Grissom Murphy (Dewayne) of Georgetown, and Linda Grissom Daffron (Richard) of Calhoun; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Brittsville Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Jones and the Rev. Ken Purdie officiating.

The body will be at the church Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.

Interment will follow in Johnston Cemetery with Cortland Grissom, Scottie Lyle, Daniel Grissom, Frankie Millaway, Barry Hicks, and Nathan Myers serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 this evening at Grissom Funeral Home.
