American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 79, of Decatur, announced a member of the unit has been elected to the positions of Tennessee American Legion Auxiliary state president. Geneva Petitt, a charter member of Unit 79, was recently elected president at the state convention held in Nashville.

Petitt has been active in the auxiliary since she became a member. She has served as Unit 79 president and vice president, and president of the auxiliary’s 3rd District of Tennessee State Auxiliary. In her capacity as president she will lead and inspire the individual auxiliary units of Tennessee to achieve the goals set by the National Convention leaders and to assist local units as we serve our veterans in our given areas.

The American Legion Auxiliary is a service organization made up of women who have ties to the American veteran and whose one great purpose is to contribute the accomplishment of the aims and purposes of the American Legion. It was established in 1919 and has become the largest and most influential women’s organization of its kind in the world.

Members of Unit 79 said they took pride in honoring Petitt with the announcement.

Petitt is currently residing in Cleveland.
