George Kenneth Ames Sr., 87, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, in a local health care facility.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a graduate of Virginia Tech.
He was retired from Olin Chemicals after 36 years of service as an electrical engineer. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in World War II in the Pacific.
He was the son of the late Rufus and Lillian Ames. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Carroll Ames.
Survivors include his wife, Freida Allison Ames, of Cleveland; children: George Kenneth Ames Jr. and wife, Alice Ames, of Cleveland and Susan Ames Srite and husband, Jim Srite, of Chattanooga; grandchildren: Eric Srite and Brian Srite, both of Chattanooga; stepgrandson, Jason Phillips; great-grandchildren: Davin Phillips and Christian Phillips; and a sister, Emily Briddell of Salisbury, Md.
A gathering of friends will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.
