George McBride, RN, has been named the new director of nursing at Woods Memorial Hospital. As director of nursing, McBride is responsible for clinical operations and nursing services.

The announcement was made by Margie Brusseau, chief nursing officer at Athens Regional Medical Center, and is effective immediately.

“I am confident that George is the right person to lead our Woods Memorial clinical and nursing teams. He has a passion for quality care and patient safety,” Brusseau said. “Our patients, employees and medical staff will all benefit from his clinical and managerial expertise.”

McBride is a graduate of the Excelsior College School of Nursing and has a bachelors’ degree in pastoral ministry and counseling from Central Christian Bible College in Missouri. He has more than 30 years of progressive experience in health care, including several years early in his career serving in the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman, team medical leader, and training officer for divisional personnel. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, he remained in the medical field, becoming an EMT, paramedic, and, ultimately, a registered nurse. He is currently pursuing his BSN.

As a registered nurse, McBride has served in a variety of roles, primarily in emergency departments and critical care units in four southern states. Most recently, he was director of emergency and critical care services at DeKalb Regional Medical Center in Fort Payne, Ala., and the director of clinical service at Fast Access Healthcare in Chattanooga.

McBride is currently a member of the United States Army Nurse Corps, serving as Company Commander 75th CSH CO A in Atlanta, where he supervises more than 300 soldiers and officers. He also maintains multiple specialty certifications and is an instructor for basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, and pediatric advanced life support.

A resident of Cleveland, McBride is the father of two grown sons — Joshua, a CPA living in Mississippi, and Jordan, a nursing school student in Gadsden, Ala.
