George R. “Bob” Harris, 65, a resident of Ooltewah, passed away Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at home.

He was born Aug. 26, 1947, and has lived in the Chattanooga area most of his life.

He graduated from Bradley Central High School in 1964 and attended Tennessee Technological University from 1964 to 1966. He graduated from the University of South Florida in Tampa in 1972 with a degree in accounting. He became a CPA in 1974 and worked for several different companies.

In 1983 he joined with his mother and father at Harris Furniture and in 1986 purchased the family business. In 1998 he opened George R. Harris, CPA as well as B&B Storage and was involved with the management of Harris Properties.

He served two years in Vietnam with the 1st Infantry Division, in the Military Intelligence Division.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; mother, Myrtle; stepson, Scott; stepdaughter, Sherry; three stepgranddaughters; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the Pet Placement Center, 5975 Dayton Blvd,. Chattanooga TN 37415.
