George Thomas “Tommy” Davis, 77, a resident of Cleveland, passed away in a local health care facility Tuesday night, July 31, 2012.

A lifelong resident of Cleveland, he was born on Feb. 14, 1935, a son of the late John and Mamie Davis.

He was of the Baptist faith and worked locally as a HVAC installer until his retirement. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having received the Korean Service Medal and the National Defense Medal. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Alhambra Shriners.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Valerie Gay Davis; son, the Rev. Charles Martin Davis; infant sister, Robbie Lee Davis; four brothers: Ralph Davis and wife, Eleace, W.J. Davis, Roy Davis, and Ottis Davis; and three grandchildren: Jason Hyatt, Ansley Davis, and Jordan Davis.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory a daughter, Mitzi Johnson of Delano; two sons: Tommy Lavon Davis (Susie) and Yuri Davis (Amy); a stepdaughter, Stephanie Whitlock; sister, Margie Schrader of Louisiana; brother, Alvin Davis (Beverly); sister-in-laws: Barbara and Carolyn Davis; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a special friend and caregiver, Debbie Neve; and numerous extended family members and friends.

A memorial service is planned at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at First Baptist Church, 1275 Stuart Road, Cleveland, with the Revs. Jimmy Caywood and Carl Caffrey officiating.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service time on Saturday at the church.

Interment will follow in the Boanerges Baptist Church Cemetery and will conclude with military honors.

The family extends appreciation to the nurses, CNAs, and entire staff of Signature Health Care for the excellent care and support they have given the entire family.
