She was a member of Galilee Baptist Church in Cleveland.
She was the founding member and singer with The Happy Three for more than 60 years. She hosted a radio show for many years on WBIN called “Moments of Sunshine.” There was nothing that she loved more than singing praises to her Lord and Savior.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Newton and Mattie Emmaline Wiley Woody: husbands: Burch Ellis, Roscoe “Rock” Owens and Walter Jones; grandson, Allen Hicks; granddaughter, Marion Perry; sister, Lorene; brother-in-law, Darrell F. Beard; and sister-in-law, Francis Woody.
She leaves behind her beloved children: Linda and husband, Allen Perry, of Benton, Judy and husband Ralph Lillard, of Cleveland, Hoyle and wife, Wanda Ellis, of Benton, Oliver “Bo” and wife, Betty Ellis of Chatsworth, Ga., Eyvonne and husband, Robert Chastain, Vivian and husband, William Johnson, Danny and wife, Debbie Jones, all of Cleveland; stepmother, Thelma Woody of Benton; grandchildren: Rex (Caroline) Perry, David (Sandy) Ellis, Denise McCormick, Jeff Hicks, Rodney (Lucy) Hicks, Jackie (Mitch) Linder, Amy (Kevin) Lawson, Adam (Christina) Ellis, and Amber and Kevin Ellis, both of Chatsworth; brothers: the Rev. Jasper Woody and James and wife, Mary Woody; sister, Debbie and husband, Dean Carver; 19 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2012, in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Weaver officiating.
Interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2012, at Benton Cemetery with grandsons and great-grandsons serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
