Howard Freddie Clowers, 83, a longtime resident of Cleveland, passed away Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, at the family residence.

He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, where he served in the Vestry and on other committees.

He served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the VFW No. 40&8 and the American Legion. He served on the Bradley County Election Commission and was an honorary member of the State General Assembly.

He was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel by Gov. Wallace Wilkinson of Kentucky. He also served a term on the Fort Loudoun Regional Library Board.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Plank Clowers, of Cleveland; children: Joseph P. Little (Sherry) and Anna Laurie Watkins (Joseph); grandchildren: Chelsea Little, Curt and Cato Watkins; and great-grandchildren: Miguel, Antonio and Theresa.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Dr. Joel Huffstetler officiating.

Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors.

Terry Johnson, Parnell Caldwell, Chris Plank, Joe Watkins, Kurt Watkins and Joey Little will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Fike Funeral Home.
