Two Bradley County residents faced a Hamilton County judge Monday after they were charged with the murder of another Bradley County man in late April.

Their case is being sent to a Hamilton County grand jury.

Chance A. Loftis, 24, and Travis Hayes Jenkins, 28, were arrested and charged with the April 25 murder of Donald Rogers, 46.

Rogers’ body was found floating in a boat in Hamilton County near the Rhea County/Hamilton County line along the Tennessee River.

Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office reports said a medical examiner’s report indicated Rogers had been beaten to death, according to Janice Atkinson, information officer for HCSO.

According to an affidavit filed with the HCSO in the investigation, Loftis and Jenkins were reportedly arguing with Rogers over the location of a campground in the area of the river. Loftis and Jenkins are being held at the Hamilton County Jail under $1 million bond.

Hamilton County Judge David Norton presided over the case in General Sessions Court Monday.
