MARY GRAHAM COOK, who is known as “Mamaw,” will celebrate her 100th birthday Sept. 10 with a unique birthday date — 9-10-11. She is a member of Victory Baptist Church in Bristol, Va. All summer, she has been able to attend Sunday school and church and for this she is thankful. Her son, Austin Cook, had served as pastor at Victory Baptist since 1967. She has seven children: Lucille Reed, Ledford, Erskine Larry, Austin, Vincent, Katherine Kesley and the late Erma Lou Hooper;16 grandchildren; 28 great- grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She says, “I have no greater joy than to know that all my children are saved and serving the Lord.” She is the family expert on remembering events last week or 90 years ago. Her recall of telephone numbers is amazing. Her secret for longevity is “hard work, strong faith, love people, laugh often and know when to remain silent.”
