Helen G. Swafford, 74, a resident of Cleveland, died Sunday, May 6, 2012, in a Chattanooga hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Sherman and Josie Verner. She was also preceded in death by a son, David Franklin Swafford; bothers: James Walley, Kermit Verner, and Junior Verner; and sisters: Mattie Lou Anderson and Alice Bowen.

She was retired from Bendix Corp. with more than 25 years of service and was a member of Beacon Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sons: Gary Swafford and his wife, Alice, and Steve Swafford; daughters: Patricia Freeman and Karen Nichols and her husband, Tim, all of Cleveland; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters: Gennie Vee Herron of Cleveland, Elsie Head of Old Fort, Hazel Swafford of Cleveland, Deborah Long of Cisco Ga., and Jeanette Vineyard of Chatsworth Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

A Remembrance of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at the Wildwood Ave Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Rev. Floyd Boggess officiating.

Interment will follow in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
