The DAR Ocoee Chapter met on Oct. 5 with historian Robert L. George as guest speaker. From left are Katie Tippens; George; Vice Regent Mariann Dietrich; and Ann Cherry, new associate member.
Dietrich led the pledges to the American and Tennessee flags, the American’s Creed, the Preamble to the Constitution and the Daughter’s Pledge to the Flag, followed by the singing of the National Anthem.
Mary Margaret Stamper and Caldwell reported they placed a display for Constitution Week at Stamper’s Furniture Store.
The bookmarks were delivered to Bradley and Polk county schools as well as Cleveland schools.
Jeannine Scott gave the National Defense report. She stressed the importance of voting and remembering veterans when Veteran’s Day is celebrated Nov. 11.
Joy Harden talked about the Cherokee Indians in Bradley County when she gave the Indian report.
Helen Riden read the secretary’s report prepared by Mildred Maupin.
The treasurer’s report was given by Ellen McReynolds. Each of these reports was approved.
Riden announce Ann Cherry is going to be an associate member of the Ocoee Chapter for the present since she is working on establishing supplemental ancestors at the Jane Douglas Chapter in Dallas.
Jane Lucchesi gave information on the DAR magazine.
Robert L. George, historian for Cleveland, was the guest speaker. He talked about the importance of railroads in general.
George mentioned one very interesting statement made by President Abraham Lincoln about the importance of a railroad going through Cleveland. Lincoln’s statement was a reference to the importance of railroads during the Civil War. In addition to focusing on the importance of railroads, George gave a slide presentation on the renovation of the Cleveland Depot.
Dietrich and Kay Tippens were hostesses for the meeting.
