Hollis Marlow, 89, a longtime resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at his home in Reno, Nev.

His wife, Mary and his two daughters were with him.

He was born Sept. 7, 1921, to Joe Frank Marlowe and Carie Lee Simmons in Stone Mountain, Ga.

He graduated from high school in Oxford, Ga. In 1940 he joined the Coast Guard and for the next 20 years was stationed in many places including the Mississippi River, Hawaii, Bikini and Alaska. It was in Alaska he met and married Mary (Molly) Seldon. They raised three sons: Leslie Wynell, Jerry and the late Tommy.

After 20 years in the Coast Guard he pursued his interest in golf. He was very successful as a golf pro (PGA) in Canton, Ga., working with the Jones family and then at the Cleveland Country Club as their golf pro. He has many very good friends in the golf field. Molly passed away in 2001.

Several years later he met Mary Davis. They were married March 2, 2004. She had three children: Richard, Elizabeth, and Anne and two grandchildren: Jason and Zachary, who all grew very fond of Hollis.

Beside the above mentioned he is survived by his sister, Bonnie; grandson, Daniel, and Daniel’s son, Bryson.

Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

A remembrance service for close friends and family will be held in the near future.
