A plea or assignment date has been set for Bradley County Commissioner Howard Thompson.

Thompson on May 12 will make plea or a court date for him will be set, according to assistant district attorney Stephen Hackett.

Judge Carroll Ross set the date Monday in Bradley County Criminal Court.

The court date is the next step in the case which originated late last year.

The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division started the investigation in December after an informant told police he was going to sell stolen property to Thompson.

The CID conducted a search, after acquiring warrants, at Thompson’s flea market and home.

On Jan. 19, Thompson was charged with attempted theft and filing a false report.

Soon after, Thompson turned himself in to the Bradley County Judicial Complex, and was released on his own recognizance, according to reports.
