Hoyt Hewitt, 85, of the Mt. Harmony community near Niota, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 6, 2013, at his residence.
A native of Polk County and a long-time resident of Bradley County, he was a son of the late William B. and Blanche Lovingood Hewitt.
He was a farm machinery salesman until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean Varner Hewitt; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Kenneth McGuire; one son, Butch Hewitt, all of the Mt. Harmony Community; two grandchildren: Rodney Burris and his wife, Janiece and Tabitha Hanshaw; two great-granchildren: Brandon and Blaine Burris; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Helen and Andy Earls of Cleveland and Dortha and Neal Overguard of Louisiana; three brothers and sisters-in-law: Dean and Betty Hewitt, Buddy and Gloria Hewitt and Micky and Shirleen Hewitt, all of Cleveland; two sisters-in-law: Betty Hewitt and Martha Hewitt, both of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at Mt. Harmony Cemetery with grandson Rodney Burris officiating.
The family will receive friends at Smith Funeral Home in Athens from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
