The luncheon will be held at the Whirlpool facility on Benton Pike, and will begin at noon.
It is a part of the United Way’s second “Day of Action,” which includes local companies providing volunteer services on various projects throughout the community.
Last year, more than 100 volunteers contributed approximately 350 man-hours at local nonprofit organizations. This year, even more are volunteering.
“Right now, we have double the number of volunteers helping on our ‘Day of Action’ projects,” said Patrick Long, United Way vice president of development.
It is appropriate that a “Volunteer” will speak to those in attendance, though most will have completed their work that morning.
Johnson has gone through many obstacles in his life, yet still inspires others to give of themselves through volunteering in and donating to your community.
On Sept. 9, 2006, Johnson sustained a life-threatening injury on the football field. And while his dream of playing professionally was gone, his spirit was not.
His website explains:

You will be inspired by his relentless determination, which he loves to impart to others through his dramatic story.”

Tickets are still available for the luncheon, but only a limited number remain. Individual tickets are $12.50 each, or a table of four is $50. A table for eight is $80.
