Irene Emma Varnell, 85, beloved wife of the late Herbert C. Varnell, passed away Feb. 5, 2014.
She was born in Schriesheim, Germany, to Ludwig and Elizabeth Fetzer on July 28, 1928.
She had a brother Roland (deceased) and is survived by a sister Jolande Schulenburg and her family in Germany.
Here in the United States, she is survived by a sister-in-law, Eula Varnell Dodge of Rogersville, and many nieces and nephews with families through out Tennessee, Ohio, Georgia and Florida.
Her husband Herbert spent 20 years in the U.S. Army where they met while he was stationed in Germany and married in October 1958. He retired in 1973 returning to Tennessee with Irene, then died at only 46 years old in 1974 leaving her a widow for many years.
Irene will be missed greatly by her dear friends Kim and Mark and the Morrow family as well as other neighbors on Wilson Avenue, where she lived for over 25 years. Having a great love for pets especially her last dogs Brownie, 20, and Bear, 21, her constant companions makes it very appreciated for (tax deductible) donations to be made in her memory to the Adoption Fund of the Cleveland Animal Shelter 360 Hill St. S.E., Cleveland, TN. 37311. A donation box will placed at the visitation for those wishing to make a memorial donation to the Adoption Fund.
Visitation will be Friday, March 28, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m. with a memorial service at 7 p.m., in the parlor of Companion Funeral Home. located at 2415 Georgetown Road N.W.
