James David “Dave” Gilbert, 60, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, in a Chattanooga hospital. The Lord knocked and Dave answered.

He was the son of the late James and Edna Humphries.

He was retired from BFI as a truck driver with more than 23 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the 101st Airborne during the Vietnam War.

He was survived by his wife of 33 years, Patricia “Pat” Gilbert; one son, Jackie Gilbert and his wife, Amanda, of Cleveland; grandchildren: Josh Gilbert and Ashley Gilbert; one brother, Donnie Gilbert and his wife, Christie, of Paradise, Texas; sisters: Tommie Sue Wood and her husband, Bobby, of Highland Home, Ala., and Lois Ann Turner of Elba, Ala.; brother-in-law, Randy Turner of Elba; nephew, Steven Gilbert of Alabama; and several other nieces and nephews.

A Remembrance of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at the North Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Rev. Gary Sneed officiating.

Interment will follow in Lee Cemetery with Brandon Roberson, Randy Bruce, Perry Ford, Robert Shell, Darren Sharp, Jackie Gilbert, Donny Gilbert and Tommy Hayes serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
