James “Jimmy” Chester Masengil, 68, of Dalton, Ga., passed away Friday, May 31, 2013, at Hamilton Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Nannie Masengil; son, Jeff Masengil; and brother, Ed Masengil.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Masengil; two daughters and sons-in-law: Kimela and Lamar Williams of Rocky Face, Ga., and Tonya and Jeff Morgan of Independence, Ky.; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Kay Posey of Georgetown, Fay and Roger Ogle of Cohutta, Ga., and May and Stoney Daniels of Cleveland; mother-in-law, Inez Higgins; and sister-in-law, Pam Higgins, both of Cohutta; brothers-in-law: David Higgins, Randall Higgins, Hershell Higgins and Bill Higgins; grandchildren: Kyle and Amy Masengil, Adam and Kirsten Craig, Hunter Williams, Kayla Morgan and Courtney Morgan; special aunt, Inez Sutton; special uncle, Louie Masengil; and nieces and nephews.

The funeral to honor his life will be held today, June 2, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home in Dalton with the Rev. Ronald Guffey officiating.

Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Bradley County.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Kyle Masengil, Adam Craig, Hunter Williams, Mike Ogle, Brandon Stokes, Chad McClure. Honorary pallbearers will be the Dalton Umpires.
