James Edward Placek, 66, a resident of Knoxville, passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012.

He was born on Jan. 14, 1946, in Evanston, Ill.

He was the son of the late Edward Henry Placek.

He had made Knoxville his home for the past 12 years, moving there from Cleveland.

He was a veteran of the United States Army having served his country during the Vietnam War and receiving the Marksman medal and also the Purple Heart. After his honorable discharge from the Army he worked and retired from the Nestle Foods Corp.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Placek.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his mother Delores Placek of Knoxville; two sons and daughter-in-laws: James and April Placek of Henderson, Nev., and Kevin and Cindy Placek of Cleveland; six grandchildren: Kyler, Karli, Ashlynn and Kash Placek, all of Henderson and Chantz and Chandlar Placek of Cleveland; and numerous other extended family members and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, in Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.
