James Edward Smith Jr.,59, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at his home after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Salzburg, Austria. Prior to his illness, he was a restaurant manager. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he held the calling of High Priest Group Leader.
He is survived by his spouse, Sharon LuAnn Smith of Cleveland; one daughter, Jessica and Scott Sampson of Omaha, Neb.; five sons: Jaron Smith of Minneapolis, Minn., Joshua Smith of Omaha, Jordan (Kimberly) Smith of Papillion, Neb., Jay Smith of West Burlington, Iowa, Jonathan Smith of Sioux City, Iowa; two stepdaughters: Anna and DJ Gunter of Spring City, Jaime Epperson of Cleveland; one stepson, Raymond Epperson III of Cleveland; 11 grandchildren: Adriana, Alexandria, Victoria, Damian, Sierra, Tre’, Tyler, Isaiah, Makayla, and two blessings yet to arrive; two brothers: Yoaman (Barb) Smith of Sutherland, Neb., Joseph Smith of Salt Lake City, Utah; one sister, Sekai (Khpra) Senworset of Seattle, Wash.; two sisters-in-law: Debra (Dennis Frazier) of Leon, Okla. and Karma (Gary) Seaman of Fairbanks, Alaska; uncle, Reginald “Sonny” Suddeth of Nashville; his cousins: Andrea and Ronald Moore, Carley Whaley, and Adrian Kirkpatrick, all of Cleveland; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mattie Lee Crawford; parents, Margaret Francis Crawford and James Edward “Smitty” Smith Sr.; aunt, Alice Josephine “Josie” Crawford; and brother, Jay Frederick Smith.
The body may be viewed Monday, April 8, 2013, from 9 a.m. until family visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Patton Funeral Home Chapel at 265 Fair Street S.E. in Cleveland.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at 7 p.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 4200 Pryor Road N.E. in Cleveland.
A graveside service will be a private affair on Wednesday morning, April 10, 2013.
