James Haney Roark went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012.

He was a former resident of Birchwood and for the past 15 years lived in Georgetown.

He died at home with his family by his side.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Irene Roark; his parents, Newton and Emma Roark; brothers: Roy, Carl and Frank Roark; and sisters: Bernice Smith and Stella Neely.

He was retired from the Hamilton County Highway Department and was a lifelong member of the Birchwood Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years.

The family extends appreciation to Hospice of Chattanooga for the care they provided the last two weeks of his life.

He is survived by his son, Philip and Beverly Roark; three daughters: Jean Holder, Janice Cooper and Joy and Chris Denton, all of Georgetown; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Remembrance of Life service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at the Birchwood Baptist Church with Pastor Dave Delmotte and the Rev. Gary Powell officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Chip Roark, Randy Roark, Mark Cooper, Adam Taylor, Seth Haralson, Terry Dake, Tony Moorehead, Wade Ledford and Mark Haralson serving as casket bearers.

The family will receive friends Saturday from noon until the service time at the church.

The North Ocoee Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes has charge of the arrangements.
