He was of the Baptist faith, a loving father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Alvin Avens; grandfather, John Houston Avens; and grandmother, Callie May Evens.
Survivors include his mother, Addie Kate McDougall; daughter, Tabitha Ann Avens and daughter and fiancé, Jamie Rae Avens, and Chad Harrison Paul; grandchildren: Kaylee Shaye Avens, Kimora Keyonce Smith and Allie Gail Paul, all of Sweetwater; sisters and brother-in-laws: Tim and Cindy Leonard, Kent and Tammy Buchanan, all of Sweetwater, David and Debbie McKeehan of Athens and Bobby and Kathy McElhaney of Ten Mile; nieces and nephews: Shawn Lowe, Ryan Wicker, Adam Wicker, Marco McKeehan and Stacey Buchanan; and several great-nieces and nephews.
We extend appreciation to the East Tennessee Healthcare Facility and the Home Health Care of East Tennessee for the great care you provided for our loved one, also a big appreciation to Mark Stewart for the excellent care you also provided.
The family will receive friends at Glenlock Baptist Church, 3050 Sweetwater Vonore Road, Sweetwater, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, with the funeral at 1 p.m. at the church.
Interment will follow in Sweetwater Memorial Gardens.
