James William Thompson, 78, a lifelong resident of Georgetown, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012, in a Sweetwater hospital.

He was the son of the late Ves and Annie Thompson Blair.

He attended the church he grew up in, St. Elmo United Methodist Church, and was retired from the state road department.

Survivors include several cousins: Martha Crawford and Shirley Jean Bryant, both of Georgetown, William Thompson, Tom Thompson and Mary Winston, all of Athens, Calvin Thompson of Riceville, Ernestine Scott of Chattanooga, Bettie Pitner of Cleveland, Labron Massengill of Ooltewah, Thomas Massengill of Georgetown, Gwen Pitner of Cleveland, Charlotte Glenn and Arthur Massengill, both of Chattanooga, Drusella Goode of Cleveland and Theresa of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 Thursday, April 5, 2012, at St. Elmo United Methodist Church, Georgetown.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Wildwood Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes.
