He was a well-known lawn mower mechanic in Bradley county, and he retired from Cleveland City Road Department with more than 35 years of service. He was a member of the Good News Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corps.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Lois Falls Cheek; his parents, Eliza and Jeff Cheek Sr.; a daughter, Lois Jean Cheek; sisters: Maryetta Godfrey and Jesse Denton; and brothers: Fremont Cheek, Toy Cheek, Joe Cheek and Grover Cheek.
He was well loved by his family, friends and any one who knew him.
Survivors include his sons and their spouses: Johnny and Marcella Cheek, Robert and Barbara Cheek, Wayne and Darlene Cheek, Ricky and Kim Cheek and Danny and Shirley Cheek, all of Cleveland; daughters and their spouses: Sue and Ronnie Shoemaker of Cleveland, Hazel and Jimmy Colachicco of Minneola Fla.; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren: sister, Nancy Jenkins of Bryson City, N. C.; and several nieces and nephews.
A Remembrance of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at the Wildwood Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with Pastor Clay Sutton, the Rev. Duane Hamby and Pastor Ronnie Bishop officiating.
Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with David, Jermemy and Matthew Cheek, David Shoemaker, Jonathan and Jared Compton, Joby Cheek, James Colochicco and Frank Falke serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
